Medical Subject Headings (MeSH/FinMeSH)

To support ontological annotations in the TerveSuomi portal, we are using a SKOS representation of the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) thesaurus, published by the US National Institute of Medicine, and the Finnish translation of MeSH (FinMeSH) created by Finnish Medical Society Duodecim. The SKOS format allows thesauri and other vocabularies and classifications to be published as part of the Semantic Web and used in semantic applications.

In addition, MeSH concepts (descriptors) have been mapped to concepts in other ontologies, in particular HPMULTI and YSO.

The original SKOS transformation of MeSH was done by researchers at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The SKOS representation of MeSH and FinMeSH is created as a part of the FinnONTO project.

Medical Subject Headings (MeSH/FinMeSH)

TerveSuomi-portaalin käyttämän ontologisen metatiedon tuottamiseksi olemme muuntaneet USA:n National Library of Medicinen julkaiseman Medical Subject Headings -sanaston sekä sen suomenkielisen, Lääkäriseura Duodecimin julkaiseman käännöksen FinMeSHin SKOS-muotoon. SKOS-muoto mahdollistaa sanastojen ja luokitusten julkaisemisen semanttisessa webissä ja niiden käytön semanttisissa sovelluksissa.

Lisäksi olemme määritelleet vastaavuudet MeSH-käsitteiden ja muiden ontologioiden, erityisesti TESAn ja YSOn käsitteiden välille.

Alkuperäinen MeSHin SKOS-muunnos on Vrije Universiteit Amsterdamin tutkijoiden tekemä.

SKOS-muotoisen MeSHin ja FinMeSHin kehittäminen on osa Suomalaiset semanttisen webin ontologiat -projektia.
